What we make
AnimeTrail is not a database of every location. We work out one trip at a time, in enough detail that you can actually take it. That means which train to catch, which ticket to buy, which taxi to book, which ryokan still gets you to the morning train, and what to do if you miss a connection. Each trip has an overview to help you choose, then a detailed plan for each way of travelling. The practical guides (trains, rental cars, lodging, food and luggage) are separate pages, so you can use them whichever trip you choose.
The first trip is Yuru Camp△ (Laid-Back Camp) in Yamanashi, from Shinjuku, in a two-day and a three-day version. More will follow, but only ones we can keep up to date.
What we do not do
AnimeTrail does not book, arrange or sell travel. Booking links take you either to the company or place itself or to a booking site (Trip.com or Klook), and you book directly on that site. We may use automated tools for a first draft, but nothing is published until a person has checked it against the original sources.
How we check facts
We check fares, timetables, IC card areas and ticket rules on the official websites of the railways, bus companies, local governments and the places themselves.
Opening hours, payment methods and similar details are harder to pin down when a restaurant, hotel or attraction does not publish them itself. What matters is who publishes the information, how recent it is and whether separate sources agree. We look first at what the place itself publishes, then at the local government or tourism association. If neither covers a detail, we use current listings on established travel agencies, booking sites and restaurant guides, but only when at least two independent listings say the same thing.
At the bottom of each page you will find the date we checked and links to the official sites, booking pages, maps and latest timetables you can use on the trip. We keep the full list of sources in our own records rather than publishing it, because much of it (timetables for individual trains, for example) is of no use to a traveller. We leave out review scores, which change too quickly. Where a price helps you plan, we give a fixed fee, a range or an estimate with the date we checked it, and say so if it can change.
We are still checking connections, transfer times, walking routes and the exact spots that match the anime in person; where we have not done this yet, the page says so.

Times, fares and opening hours are checked again just before a page goes live.
- Three months later
The same details are checked again three months after publishing, then every six months after that.
Anything time-limited comes off the page at the first update after it ends.
How to read “Not yet confirmed”
Some details cannot be pinned down from published sources alone and need a phone call, a real booking or a visit: the exact taxi fare, whether a particular card issued outside Japan will definitely work, or what a small station has. We do not state those as fact. If the evidence is thin or sources disagree, we say so, mark it and tell you what to ask when you book. The mark comes off once the evidence is strong enough.
Photos and the series
Photographs are our own, except for a small number of licensed images that are credited where they appear. Our policy is not to use screenshots, official artwork or character images. We do not photograph other campers, private property or residents, and we ask before photographing inside shops.

Affiliate disclosure
As of September 2026, the lodging guide includes affiliate links to Trip.com alongside each place’s own official site. Each of the four itineraries links to Trip.com for the hotels where that plan stays, and the driving plans and the rental car guide link to Trip.com for comparing rental cars. The four itineraries and the trains and tickets guide also link to Klook for limited express seats between Shinjuku and Kofu or Yamanashishi, and the driving plans link to Klook for a Japan eSIM. If you book through a Trip.com or Klook link, AnimeTrail may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Each of these pages says so in one line at the top.
A place to stay or booking site is listed only if it suits the itinerary. Earning a commission never changes which place we recommend or where it appears on the page, and we still list places we cannot earn from.
