Why it matters for anime fans
Yahagi Dam appears in episode 1 of Yuru Camp△ Season 3, and the rally marks the dam’s 55th year. It is less a shop crawl than a drive through the mountain villages where the Yahagi River begins, ending at a hot spring with a card you cannot get anywhere else.
What you can see and do
- Three places to swap for the card, all of which also give stamps: Michi-no-Eki Donguri-no-Sato Inabu (Toyota, Aichi), Kushihara Onsen Sasayuri-no-Yu (Ena, Gifu) and Shinshu Hiraya Onsen Himawari-no-Yu (Hiraya, Nagano).
- Yahagi Dam itself. The dam office does not give stamps, but its display room has a large panel of the artwork used on the card.
- Roadside stations and hot springs along the way, which is where most of the stamps come from.
Tickets, booking and limited items
Collect stamps
Spend ¥500 at a taking-part shop for one stamp, up to four at the same shop. There are nine different stamps across the areas and exchange points.
Swap eight stamps for the card
Take them to one of the three exchange points. Each point has its own stock of 1,000 cards.
Check the stock before you go
The cards are gone once they run out, and there is no end date. Before you book anything, check the latest count on the Yahagi Dam office’s X account or the event’s Instagram. Yuru Camp△ anime: September news (Japanese)
Getting there
The six areas are spread across mountain villages in three prefectures. Public transport will not get you round them in any useful way, so plan it as a drive, starting from Nagoya with a rental car.
A natural order from Nagoya is Toyota and Inabu, then Yahagi Dam and Kushihara, then Kamiyahagi, and Neba and Hiraya last. You can start anywhere, so let the card stock and the shops’ opening days decide.
Where to stay
Choose where to stay by where you want to finish. Every option needs a car.
Natsuyake Onsen Seiryutei (Inabu)
In Inabu, Toyota, about 15 min on foot from Donguri-no-Sato Inabu. Free parking for 10 cars. The ryokan takes cash only, not cards or e-money.
Medallion Belgravia Resort (Kushihara)
In Kushihara, Ena, close to Yahagi Dam. Best if the dam and Kushihara are the heart of your trip.
Shinshu Hiraya Onsen Himawari-no-Yakata (Hiraya)
Next to Himawari-no-Yu, one of the exchange points, if you finish in Hiraya or Neba. Ten rooms, a hot spring for guests only, and plans with dinner and breakfast. Bookings are by phone, in Japanese.
